Caring Committee

The Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is dedicated to providing a caring environment for its members and friends.
In the cycle of life, we often find ourselves in situations where we need the help and support of others.

The Caring Committee
The Caring Committee is a group of volunteers who give of themselves and their time to support and listen to those who find themselves in need. Some of the changes during which people might need assistance include:

  • The death of a loved one and issues surrounding grief and bereavement

  • One's own illness or the illness of a family member or friend.

  • Changes in a relationship or marital status

  • Unemployment or change in employment

  • Change in living conditions

  • Loneliness

  • The death of a long time animal companion

The Caring Committee will extend a hand when someone is in difficulty:

  • They will organize the delivery of some meals for persons in trying
circumstances such as a new baby, a death in the family or an
    incapacitating illness.

  • The Associate Minister will assign a pastoral listener for someone who
needs to talk with a caring person.

  • Committee members will send cards of support or congratulations when
    appropriate.

EXCELLENT CARING IS A WAY OF GIVING SERVICE TO ERUUF MEMBERS AND FRIENDS!!!!!

Health Ministries
The Health Ministries is one of several spokes of the Care Committee. Our
mission statement says: In a context of compassion, acceptance,
responsibility and empowerment: We strive to affirm and promote health in
body, mind and spirit for the congregation, members and friends of ERUUF.

How do we do this? It might look like planned programs around health
topics, strategizing ways to communicate with our elderly, isolated members
during disasters, monitoring B/P's on Sundays, and many more possibilities.
If you are interested in health and integrating it within your faith
community, join us in our mission. You need not be a health care
professional to care and share.

Support Group for People with Aging Parents
This group provides support and appropriate information to individuals who
have concern and responsibility for the care of aging parents. Area experts
are invited periodically to discuss a variety of topics relevant to aging
parents. Monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month.

Pastoral Listeners
A pastoral listener is a member of ERUUF who values community and wants to
be there for a fellow member in need. They are not therapists but have had
some training from our ministers, and from therapists who are ERUUFians.
They are at an age where they have had many of the kinds of life
experiences that foster empathy for others.
"Although therapy is a valuable experience, I feel that what we really need
the most in times of trouble is the solace of friends who care about us,
and the reassurance of being a member of a loving community."
