DESCRIPTION:Remote meeting of the Nontheist Group. All are welcome to join!
\nOur discussion this month will be based on Steven Brill’s book The Death
of Truth. Per the book jacket\, this book asks\, “How did we become a wor
ld where facts — shared truths — have lost their power to hold us together
as a community\, as a country\, globally? How have we allowed the prolife
ration of alternative facts\, hopes\, even conspiracy theories\, to destro
y our trust in institutions\, leaders\, and legitimate experts?'\nFor thos
e who haven’t read the book\, the following videos can provide some backgr
ound:\n\nThis half-hour video (October 7\, 2024: Steven Brill with The Pel
l Center) covers some of the key topics in the book\, including some backg
round on Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act\, which exempts pla
tforms from any liability for postings.\nThis longer (65 min) video (Steve
n Brill — The Death of Truth with Al Hunt with Politics and Prose) is spec
ifically about his book. It is an interview followed by Q and A.\n\nReach
out to the Nontheist Group for more information. \nRequest Zoom Link https
