DESCRIPTION:What social factors affect whether nonbelievers publicly identi
 fy as atheists? It’s well known that the numbers of religiously unaffiliat
 ed in the U.S. has increased in recent decades\, yet many nonbelievers do 
 not publicly claim to be atheist or even agnostic. Social scientists who s
 tudy religion examine factors that may be driving this phenomenon. The onl
 ine news source “The Conversation” published an evidence-based article tit
 led\, 'The number of religious ‘nones’ has soared\, but not the number of 
 atheists – and as social scientists\, we wanted to know why'. Join us in d
 iscussing personal perspectives\, ideas\, and thoughts as we explore this 
 research.\n \nWe are a community of non-theists within the Unitarian Unive
 rsalist tradition. Together\, we explore the human experience and support 
 each other in personal growth and in working toward the greater good. \n
