This year Pridefest is particularly important with a high level of anti-LGBTQ bigotry fed by certain politicians and discriminatory laws such as HB2. Triangle area UUs are joining together to create a float for the Pride Parade and having a booth at the festival to demonstrate that communities of faith can be affirming and welcoming.
This year the UU presence is being coordinated by The Community Church of Chapel Hill Unitarian Universalist and we need volunteers to participate in well-organized tasks such as staffing the UU booth, driving a car to tow the float, packing up the booth, etc. Most of these require only a 1 or 2 hour time commitment on the day of Pridefest. There are volunteer opportunities at various times from 8 am until 5 pm.
The festival hours are 10 am to 5 pm; speeches begin at 12 noon and the parade is at 1 pm.
