During the 2021-2023 biennium, the North Carolina legislature allocated roughly $19 million for "crisis pregnancy centers" (per the NC Budget and Tax center). These unregulated centers disguise themselves as medical clinics with the aim of dissuading women from having abortions. They often push a religious message. We will learn how UPCs get money from the government even though they push a religious message on their clients. Resources for our discussion:
