The deadline to register to vote is 25 days (Oct. 14) before the day of the election. Barring further legislation or court action, same-day registration at One-Stop Early Voting will not be available for the November 2016 General Election. On July 29, a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit struck down photo ID requirements and associated laws in North Carolina. The state is considering its options. Barring a different outcome on appeal, photo ID will not be required in the upcoming general election.
