Member Listening Session for Minister Emerita Proposal
Every so often, a congregation wishes to acknowledge the exceptional impact of a called minister whose service to the congregation has been particularly noteworthy. The Unitarian Universalist Association and the UU Ministers Association have proposed guidelines for granting the title Minister Emerit to honor such ministers, accomplished through a vote of the congregation. Rev. Dr. Arvid Straube was named Minister Emeritus by ERUUF members in 2014 in recognition of his significant service during his years as Lead Minister.
Over the past several months the Coordinating Team and Board of Trustees have developed a policy for honoring ministers who have served ERUUF as called Lead Minister for a minimum of seven years, with devotion, skill, grace, and/or distinction in the advancement of our Mission.
It is with this in mind that we are pleased to let you know that Rev. Deborah Cayer has been suggested to the Board to receive such an honor. A Minister Emerit Team consisting of Nancy Henley, Lillie Searles, Bo Glenn, and David Huber has been charged by the Coordinating Team to carry out an assessment of Rev. Cayer's service, offer opportunities for information and comment by voting members of the congregation, and to draft a Declaration of Minister Emerita to be presented for vote at the Annual Meeting of the congregation on May 19, 2024.
We welcome your participation in this process and look forward to seeing you at one of informational meetings!
