Nontheist Group
We are a community of non-theists within the Unitarian Universalist tradition. Together, we explore the human experience and support each other in personal growth and in working toward the greater good. During this meeting, we will discuss what gives meaning to your life?
When considering the topic 'What Gives Meaning to Your Life?', you may find the following questions helpful:
- Can you share thoughts about what has been valuable to you in developing a sense that your life has meaning (if, indeed, you feel that)? Perhaps helping other people, engaging with family, friends, and others, enjoying the natural world, work, travel, sports, music, art, particular writers and books, involving yourself in political action and working toward justice, the feeling of pleasure when you engage in creative activities, or use well-honed skills, or learn something new? What else?
- Is your life inherently meaningful? Or have you worked to create what meaning there is for you? What has that been like?
- Over the decades, have your ideas about what life is all about changed? Do you remember any especially vivid moments when you came to a new realization, a new understanding about what, if anything, you were meant to be doing?
- How has being a nontheist (if you are) affected your search for meaning (if, indeed, you have been searching)?
You may also want to take a look at an article that discusses a Pew Research study on WHAT MAKES LIFE MEANINGFUL across various societies and cultures.
