Spirituality without Truth Claims
Britt Hartley is a “deconstructed Mormon” who now describes herself as an “atheist spiritual director.” She emphasizes a lens that views religion as a cognitive technology that has had thousands of years to learn how to provide some elements that are critical to leading a meaningful life. She suggests that the secular community has much to learn about meeting basic human needs such as providing community, facing existential fears, honoring the rhythms of life, and providing moral education. She advocates for nonreligious people to steal back “the good stuff” from religion.
In preparation for our session, we recommend viewing 'Britt Hartley’s recent interview'. It’s just under 40 minutes long and well worth your time.
