Immigrant and Refugee Action Group
Many new immigrants need to learn to drive when they get to the US. This can be very challenging, especially for Afghan women who had no schooling and are not literate. Often, they have large families, and the father takes the car to work, so who picks up a sick kid at school or takes kids to medical appointments?
A small group of ERUUF members and friends have teamed up to help a few Afghan women to overcome this barrier and get ready for their permit tests. Working in pairs, they have been matched with 4 women who are members of the Refugee Community Partnership, a local immigrant support network. The women are highly motivated to learn, and although progress may be slow, everyone is determined! Thank you to Monique Mueller, Dennis McGrath, Helene Carlson, Jeni Foote, Sandy Hochel, Sarah Temmin, Pat Mueller, and Peggy Schaeffer for volunteering! Stay tuned, and if you want to know more, email .
